The choir is delighted to welcome new members across the range of voices. We are a cosmopolitan group of singers with a variety of ages, backgrounds and nationalities and always enjoy meeting new singers, so there’s a warm and inclusive welcome for anyone who loves choral singing. Being a medium-sized choir we are well suited to a varied repertoire, from small unaccompanied pieces to large-scale choral works and we perform several concerts each year. Our next concert, at Christmas, will include Bach’s Christmas Oratorio and we are also looking forward to performing Bach’s St. Matthew Passion in the Spring of 2023.  We are particularly looking for new recruits for this exciting and very large work .

Our musical director John Dexter is a highly accomplished and experienced choral director who helps us achieve a high standard of performance through an efficient and enjoyable rehearsal environment and in addition through occasional workshops which help us develop our choral and musical skills.  The choir also goes on regular tours abroad, which are hugely popular on a musical and social level, and we have recently returned from a lovely visit to northern Germany.

Here are some of the things that members have said recently about the Goethe choir:

“A great place to learn and sing music in an informal atmosphere”
“Great choice of music and lovely people to sing with.  High standard achieved”
“I enjoy every week when I’m there. I’m learning things from the conductor and singing the pieces”
“A high standard of choral music with a lovely friendly and welcome atmosphere”
“Friendly, good music, excellent director, very international”

Rehearsals are held on Tuesdays from 7.30 to 9.45 pm at the Lutherhaus, 24 Adelaide Road, Dublin 2, opposite the Royal Victoria Eye & Ear Hospital. This city centre location is close to LUAS and bus stops and has ample free on-street parking available after 7 pm. Members are expected to commit to regular attendance and extra rehearsals may be added coming up to a performance.

The annual fee is €170 or €85 for full-time students and just €30 for anybody under 30 years of age. Sheet music and scores are provided at as low a cost as is feasible and learning aids are shared from the internet or made available by the musical director.

Singers interested in joining us are invited to sing with the choir during rehearsal and will be very briefly  auditioned by our musical director John Dexter after the rehearsal ends. No preparation is required but candidates will be asked to sing some scales and arpeggios etc. and to repeat short phrases played on the piano. Some ability to read music and to sight sing is an advantage.

If you are interested in joining the choir, please fill out the form below or send an email to in**@go*********.ie with your details and we will get back to you.
