Beethoven concert with John O’Conor – June 2024

We were delighted and honoured to take part in a concert with the renowned Irish pianist John O’Conor and soprano soloist Emma Nash in St. Therese’s Church in Mount Merrion in Dublin in June 2024.  The  main work in the concert was a performance of Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy, a work which John O’Conor had performed previously with the choir in 1976.

St. Matthew Passion – Feb 2023

We gave a memorable performance of Bach’s St. Matthew Passion in the Church of St. Thérèse, Mount Merrion, Dublin on Sunday February 26th 2023, which was enthusiastically received by a large and appreciative audience.  If you’d like to get a flavour of the evening, here is a slideshow of photos from the concert with backing track of our performance of the final chorus of the work (“Wir setzen uns mit Tränen nieder“).  We are grateful to Piotr Sadowski for the photography and choir member Brian McIvor for the recording.

Christmas concert – Dec 2022

Visit to northern Germany – July 2022

For our first trip abroad since 2018, nineteen members of the choir plus a number of partners flew to Hamburg on July 9, 2022 for a visit to northern Germany, along with our guest conductor for the trip, David Leigh.  The culmination of our visit was a stay in Loccum Abbey in Lower Saxony, where Corinna and Joachim Diestelkamp are the church pastors.  Corinna and Joachim are former pastors in St. Finian’s Lutheran church in Dublin, and while there were members of the Goethe Choir.  Since returning to Germany they have instigated the practice of singing a cantata by JS Bach during one of the morning services each summer, and the Goethe Choir was delighted to be invited to take part this year.

The trip lasted from July 9 to 18 and we stayed in three locations – Zarpen (near Lübeck), Stade (near Hamburg) and Loccum.  As well as singing during the service in Loccum on Sunday, July 17 we also performed a specially prepared programme of European music in concerts of our own in the churches of Hamberge, Gnarrenburg, Groß Berkel and finally in Loccum Abbey church, as well as singing during the Sunday morning service in Zarpen on July 10 and after the midday prayer service in St. Michael’s Church (the Michel) in Hamburg on July 12.  We also had plenty of opportunity for sight-seeing in the area, including visits to Lübeck and Hamelin.

You can see a selection of photos from the trip below, followed by some videos of us performing in concerts during the visit.  Hover the cursor over a photo for some info and click on the photo to enlarge it.  More information on the photos is available by clicking on the ‘i’ button below an enlarged photo.
